One healthy step at a time | IBX Healthy Steps Blog

Hi, I?m Melissa!

Working full-time combined with a busy home life can be challenging. Dance, soccer, swim team ? our family is constantly on the go, so sometimes grabbing a doughnut or going to the drive-thru is a lot easier than eating a healthy meal at home. Luckily for our family, my husband does 99% of the cooking, but that 1% that is left up to me needs a healthy makeover.

And my cooking wasn?t the only thing that needed a makeover. All my life I have struggled with my weight and I didn?t want my kids to suffer the same as I did. So a couple of years ago, I took steps to live a healthier life by training and competing in triathlons. I caught the ?bug? when my husband did his first triathlon and after cheering him across the finish line I thought, I can swim, I can ride a bike, I can do this! And then it hit me, I had to run too, and as someone who only runs when chased, I had some serious training to do. And since then I have competed in three triathlons and I am in training to do more throughout the year. The training isn?t always easy, but it?s made me healthier and happier and I think a better mom, wife, friend, and employee.

So please stay tuned to my posts and join me for my monthly tales of cooking, training and parenting.

I?m a working wife and mother of two trying to make healthy choices for myself and my family. I don?t take myself too seriously and I can almost guarantee there will be ice cream binges, skipped workouts, and the occasional parental freak-out along the way and I hope you will join me for the journey as I take it one healthy step at a time.
