Who cares how the West was won? I want to know about how one pixelated man took the "other" Texas.
Kitty Lambda Games has just released The Real Texas, described as an action RPG mash-up of Zelda: Link to the Past and Ultima VI, but without the standard fetch quests and use of hit points. Players assume the role of rancher Sam who is vacationing in England when he falls into a blue portal and lands in The Strange Texas.
On top of those deviations listed above, the developer touts a rather novel gun-play mechanic. Players can't move and aim simultaneously. Instead, they must press the space bar or right mouse button to draw a gun, and then press the left mouse button to shoot. The Real Texas also promises a "handful of weapons which all work very differently" to mix up the fighting.
The Real Texas is available now for Windows, Mac, and Linux, on sale for $7.95 until Sunday (regularly $14.95).
