Stocks start mixed; automakers rise

NEW YORK (AP) ? Stocks are getting off to a mixed start on Wall Street.

Automakers rose as traders anticipate good sales reports for last month.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 36 points to 15,150 shortly after the opening bell Monday. That's a gain of 0.2 percent.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell two points to 1,628, or 0.1 percent. The Nasdaq fell 10 points to 3,445.

Industry analysts believe automakers will report that sales rose 7 percent in May, which would put the annualized rate back above 15 million. Sales dropped below that threshold in April for the first time in six months.

Ford and General Motors each rose 2 percent in early trading.
